Last House, Tangalle
Introduction
Designed by Sri Lanka’s legendary architect, the late Geoffrey Bawa… the Last House is a beautiful 5 bedroom boutique villa and one of Bawa’s final creations. Located in the village of Mawella, this tropical hideaway is set on a coconut grove fronting a crescent shape bay. Soothing saffron walls against brightly coloured Bougainvillea plants; cooling cement floors, framed views of the ocean from different angles, and large open spaces that erases the boundaries between indoors and out …all iconic features of Bawa’s architecture. The Last House can be booked exclusively as a whole property or by the room. Families with children are welcome. A minimum age of 10 years is maintained for children at the Last House.
Location
Situated between the bay and a lagoon that is immersed in nature, the Last House is located 7 kms south of Tangalle and is easily accessed via the Southern Expressway.
Accommodation
The 5 bedrooms are located on the ground and upper floors of the main house and opens out to front and back gardens. Interiors are furnished with a mix of antiques and contemporary furniture, tapestries, and art. The Cinnamon Hill double room on the upper floor can be booked with the Cinnamon Hill twin room to provide exclusive access to the Cinnamon Hill Suite and is ideal for families.

Moonamal: A double bedroom opening out to front and rear gardens and the sea beyond. Interiors are furnished with a king-size four-poster bed and sofa. Ensuite bathroom has an indoor and outdoor shower.
Atteriya: Double room on the ground floor opening out to sea views with doors opening out to the front and rear gardens.
Na: Spacious double room on the ground floor looking inland to a small lagoon. The architectural design in this room frames a view of the sea through a small window.
Cinnamon Hill: Spacious double room on the upper floor opens out to a long balcony that skirts around and looks out to the gardens and the ocean.
Cinnamon Hill Twin: Spacious Twin room opening out to the balcony and sea views. The ensuite bathroom has twin vanities, caste iron bathtub, and rain shower.
Facilities
The Last House is set on sprawling gardens leading to the bay. Relax on a sun lounge taking in the tropical sun and the ocean breeze. Take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool located in the rear courtyard surrounded by Frangipani and bougainvillea trees. Meals are served in the dining room, in the gardens, or in the privacy of your own balcony or verandah. Sri Lankan and western dishes are served here prepared with fresh seafood from the harbour and local market. BBQs under a star filled sky is organised with prior notice. There is much to do beyond the Last House. Go surfing, boating, visit the Tangalle market and harbour. Spend time observing the endangered marine turtles in Rakuwa beach as they come ashore to lay their eggs. Surf boards, arm bands and floaters, bats and balls, and board games are available in-house for kids.
