Jansen’s Bungalow, Kudawa
Introduction
Jansen’s Bungalow is a family owned eco-retreat bordering the Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve in the south west of Sri Lanka. Immersed in nature with spectacular views of the rainforest, a gently flowing river, and situated close to the Sinharaja entrance, this is an ideal base from which to explore the rainforest. Jansen’s consists of the Main Bungalow which is a heritage property with courtyards and verandahs and furnished with antiques and artifacts; and the newly constructed 3 bedroom Annex which is on the same property and located 50 metres away. Jansen’s offers a peaceful setting immersed in nature, comfortable rooms, tasty Sri Lankan food and a courteous team of staff who are ever ready to help.
Location
The Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve is in the south west of Sri Lanka and can be accessed via Ratnapura and Kudawa; the Central Highlands via Kitulgala. Jansen’s Bungalow is located close to the entrance gates to the forest reserve in Kudawa.
Accommodation
Accommodation is in the Main Bungalow and The Annex. Deluxe Single, Double (or Twin) and Triple Rooms; and Deluxe Family Rooms are on offer. The Family Rooms are designed with a mezzanine floor providing adequate space for children.

Deluxe Rooms: There are Single, Double and Triple Deluxe Rooms opening out to private balconies with forest views. Ensuite bathrooms have hot water showers.
Deluxe Family Rooms: The spacious family Rooms have a master bedroom on the ground floor furnished with a four-poster double bed; and a mezzanine floor furnished with two single beds that are ideal for children. The Family Rooms open out to private balconies facing the rainforest and are furnished with comfortable lounge chairs. Ensuite bathrooms have hot water showers and some have bathtubs. Accommodates up to 4 guests.
Facilities
Guests at the Main Bungalow and The Annex share restaurant and pool facilities. Authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, western dishes and BBQs are served at the terrace restaurant looking out to the river and forest. Meals are also served in the privacy of your own balcony. After a rewarding morning of exploring the Sinharaja Rainforest, return to Jansen’s and take a refreshing river bath in the natural rock pool. There are several interesting endemic fish in this river that flows by the bungalow and The Annex. Other facilities include a bar, room service, swimming pool and several outdoor spaces to relax and take in the spectacular jungle setting.
