Introduction
Ellerton is a charming 9 bedroom boutique hotel perched on a hill top in the Kandyan village of Doluwa. Situated at an elevation of 2,400 ft., the climate here is cool and comfortable. Ellerton is set on a nine acre property with tea, coffee plantations and forest vegetation. This is a peaceful setting that is immersed in nature. Ellerton consists of the Main House and two separate smaller bungalows. The Main House was originally a colonial period tea planters’ bungalow which has been fully restored keeping its old world charm. Ellerton offers well-appointed rooms and suites; delicious Sri Lankan and western cuisine; helpful staff who are always at hand; and a laidback lifestyle that is ideal a for a relaxing holiday.
Location
Ellerton is situated in the village of Doluwa which is about 45 minutes away from the city of Kandy. Ellerton can also be reached from Nuwara Eliya in the Central hills via Gampola.
Accommodation
Accommodation is in 3 rooms and suites in the Main House; 3 bedrooms in the Valley House; 1 spacious suite in the newly built Arora bungalow; and 2 self-contained Garden Rooms. Room interiors are cozy and well furnished with king, double or twin beds; lounge chairs, and writing desks. Ensuite bathrooms have hot water showers (and bath tubs in the suites).

Main House Suite: This light and airy suite located in the Main House, consists of a spacious bedroom furnished with a king-size bed; and an interconnecting smaller bedroom furnished with Twin beds. Both rooms share an ensuite bathroom. Rooms open out to the gardens. Accommodates 4 guests. Ideal for families or friends travelling together.
Main House Twin: This spacious room is furnished with twin beds that can be converted into a double bed; and an interconnecting smaller room that accommodates another two guests. Both rooms share an ensuite bathroom. Bedrooms open out to garden views.
Main House Double: Furnished with a double bed and accommodates two guests. Opens out to garden views.
Valley House Rooms: The 3 spacious bedrooms in the Valley House are located by the swimming pool. Two of the rooms are furnished with king-size beds and one has twin beds. Two Valley House rooms open out to a verandah, swimming pool, views going down the Alagalla Valley and the mountains beyond.
Garden Rooms: The two spacious and self-contained Garden Rooms have a sitting area and private balcony looking out to mountain views.
Aurora Bungalow: This newly built bungalow consists of a spacious suite that can accommodate 4 guests.
Facilities
The Main House is the original planter’s bungalow that is now fully restored preserving its old world feel. Verandahs, high ceilings, and many doors and windows give the Main House a light and airy feel. The spacious living room offers a quite space to relax and unwind. Dining at Ellerton is a treat with two experienced chefs preparing sumptuous Sri Lankan and Western cuisine. The menus vary daily offering guests an array of dishes prepared with fresh vegetables and local produce. Meals are served in the open sided pavillion with scenic views; in the gardens, or in the privacy of your own balcony or terrace. Relax by the poolside with a good book and a cup of tea while taking in spectacular mountain views. Learn to cook Sri Lankan curries with the chef who will be happy to share his traditional recipes. Spend time in the tropical gardens with beautiful flowering plants and tall shady trees that attracts many birds. Go cycling, bird watching or on a nature trail.
Venture beyond Ellerton along paddy fields and vegetables gardens, and explore the rural villages where life unfolds at a quite pace. Take a tuk-tuk ride to the nearby Orange Field Tea Factory and learn of world famous Ceylon Tea. Head to the city of Kandy and visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha – a UNESCO World Heritage Site; and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens with a wide variety of plants and age old trees that attracts many species of birds.
