Camelia Hills, Dickoya

Introduction

Camelia Hils is a 5 bedroom planter’s bungalow situated in the Castlereagh valley in Dickoya. At an elevation of about 1,200 metres, the bungalow is situated on a tea plantation overlooking the still waters of the Castlereagh reservoir and surrounded by tea covered hills, pine trees and misty mountains. Luxurious and well equipped bedrooms; cozy living spaces and outdoor terraces where you can sip a cup of Ceylon Tea whilst gazing out to mesmerizing views; a personalised service and interesting excursions makes this a memorable Hill country holiday retreat. Camelia Hills is managed by the Tear Drop company that handles several luxurious boutique properties across Sri Lanka.

Location

Camelia Hills is set amidst an extensive tea plantation in the Castlereigh valley in Dickoya and can be reached by car or train. Town of Nuwara Elia is one hour north of Dickoya. The sacred Adam’s Peak can also be accessed from here.

The 5 luxurious bedrooms are individually designed with stylish interiors in muted hues that blends with the serene surroundings. Rooms open out to breathtaking views of the Castlereagh reservoir or the misty mountains.

Lake View Suite (34 sqm): Of the 2 spacious Lake View Suites, one is located on the ground floor and opens out to the gardens and swimming pool. The second suite is located on the upper floor and opens out to a private deck verandah with lake and mountain views. The suites have a separate sitting room and bedroom furnished with king-size four-poster beds. Accommodates 2 guests. The romantic ambience here is Ideal for a couple on their honeymoon.

Dickoya Suite (53 sqm): This is a family suite with a Master bedroom furnished with a king-size four-poster bed. The suite interconnects with the adjoining room furnished with a single bed and a pull-out trundle bed. Accommodates
up to 4 guests.

Lake View Bedroom (34 sqm): With spectacular views of the Castlereagh valley, the Lake View Bedroom offers a comfortable king-size four-poser bed, arm chair, sofa bed, and writing desk. Accommodates 2 guests.

Camelia Bedroom (34 sqm): The Camelia bedroom opens out to the Peak Wilderness Nature Reserve at a distance. Furnished with a king-size bed that can be made into twin beds; sofa bed, arm chair and writing desk. Accommodates up to 3 guests and is ideal for children or friends travelling together.

Facilities

Sumptuous Sri Lankan and western cuisine is served in the dining room or outdoors on the terrace gazing out to the Castlereagh. Meals are prepared with fresh vegetables from their own gardens and from the local market. Camelia Hills offers an `All Inclusive Rate’ which includes all meals….breakfast, lunch, high tea, and dinner; snacks and drinks, tea and coffee, wines, beers, and spirits throughout the day. Other facilities include a swimming pool, a cozy living room with a fire place, and outdoor terraces with spectacular views. Several curated experiences are on offer including Sri Lankan cooking classes with the in-house chef; a Ceylon Tea experience with a walk through the plantation and guided tour of a tea factory; and canoe rides on the Castlereagh reservoir. Interesting to explore Dickoya with its sacred Hindu Kovils and colonial period churches. Just beyond the bungalow is the quaint 19th century Warleligh Church with beautiful stain glass windows. The more adventurous might wish to do the night time climb up Adam’s Peak to reach the summit at sunrise; or explore the Hortain Plains National Park.
